It’s no secret that the U.S., as well as many other countries, are depending on China to supply them with the much-needed, medical-grade, PPE. This protective equipment is essential for protecting our frontline heroes risking their lives to keep sick patients alive. This has sparked some questions as to why our supply chain relies so heavily on outside sources, thus we’ll likely see a big change as we come out of this crisis. We’ll still see manufacturing abroad, but when it comes to essential products, those will likely come closer to home.
This virus has truly brought upon a new wild west to the PPE market. With so much demand, we’ve seen a frenzy of new factories and suppliers emerge with a focus on PPE. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. On a positive note, we now have a larger pool of PPE suppliers in order to support the need for protective equipment. This was bound to happen since in challenging times like these, people step up to do their part.
At the same time, with all of these new manufacturers, many are finding it challenging to find reliable suppliers. Many of these entities are finding it near impossible to replenish inventory, let alone stock up. They’re experiencing massive delays or are getting outbid on overseas PPE purchases. This is definitely causing organizations to panic and continue to rely on unreliable sources to attempt to meet their PPE needs.
